Role: Web Application Firewall (WAF) Engineer
Location: Remote Based
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000pa + Benefits
Skills: Layer 7 Security experience, Web Application Firewall experience, Cyber Security certifications
Do you have experience owning/running web application firewalls? Do you have knowledge of threat actor abuse cases?
If you can answer yes to those two questions then my client is keen to speak with you! Part of a global delivery team, your role will be to run the web application firewall (WAF) for the organisation, providing the first line of defence for the companies online applications, monitoring and tuning the WAF against attacks to ensure services are secure and safe to use.
Key experience required for the WAF Engineer:- Have proven experience with WAF technologies
- Ability run and tune application firewalls, not just integrate them
- Knowledge of threat actor abuse cases
- Able to defend systems for the business from attacks
- Strong understanding of Cyber Security protocols
- Information Security Certified - CEH, Comp TIA security +, CISM, CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent
Day to Day
This role demands a thorough understanding of security threats and compromise methods. You will triage cyber security attacks seen on the WAF as they are detected or reported.
You will analyse these attacks, to understand the root cause infiltration/exploitation events. You will then plan and develop the defensive rule changes, including tactical configuration changes and longer term fixes. You will work with the Global Security Incident manager to prioritise the remediation activities and share knowledge with teammates across the business to ensure the resolution of attacks addresses the root cause. Participate in meetings and group work sessions to develop new rulesets on the WAF, to defend new systems as the move through the lifecycle, from development to production.
Strategic Contribution Using your experience of WAF technologies, you will plan the release of strategic fixes to prevent further reoccurrences of incidents. You must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and technical experts.
